Rail passengers

The Railways Act 2005 sets out statutory procedures concerning proposals for the closure of passenger services, passenger networks and stations.

Rail timetable changes take place twice a year, usually in May and December. New timetables must be published 12 weeks in advance.

Rolling stock leasing companies (ROSCOs) own most of the coaches, locomotives and freight wagons on the rails, which they hire out to train and freight operating companies.
