This is dictated by the nature and complexity of your project and your familiarity with rail standards and legislation. As a general rule, it is helpful if you engage with us as soon as possible, once you are aware of how your project will have an impact on railway safety, infrastructure, operations etc. In particular, if you have any concerns regarding safety, interoperability, access or licensing please get in touch and we will be able to assess whether further engagement is required.
Many of the regulatory requirements outlined below have timescales for ORR decision-making that are set down in legislation. You should familiarise yourself with these and plan to make any formal submissions well ahead of time.
You should also contact Network Rail’s Business Development Managers in the first instance to discuss your project, the necessary levels of engagement and any agreements you will require.
