As the safety and economic regulator of the rail industry and National Highways' monitor, we work with the following safety bodies.

Health and Safety Executive

The Health and Safety Executive gives advice to the Government on health and safety matters.
 

Rail Accident Investigation Branch

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch investigates railway accidents and incidents on the UK's railways to improve safety.

RSSB

The Rail Safety and Standards Board helps the mainline railway industry's work to achieve continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
 

British Transport Police

The national police force for the mainline railways and the London Underground system, Docklands Light Railway, the Glasgow Subway, the Midland Metro tram system and Croydon Tramlink.

Railway Industry Health and Safety Advisory Committee

The Railway Industry Health and Safety Advisory Committee (RIHSAC) provides advice on railway health and safety and comments on proposed new regulations and guidance.

 

Light Rail Safety and Standards Board (LRSSB)

We have published the terms of reference for a review to assess that the LRSSB is on track with enabling the delivery of the relevant Rail Accident Investigation Branch’s (RAIB) Sandilands recommendations within the sector and to help set it on a firm footing as it evolves.
