Heritage train operator prohibited from running rail services

The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has today issued a Prohibition Notice to West Coast Railway Company Ltd (WCRC) preventing it running its heritage rail services on the mainline railway. The Notice relates to concerns about WCRC’s management of safety, following a number of incidents over the past year.

Babcock Rail fined £400,000 after track worker injured in Flintshire

Engineering company, Babcock Rail Limited, has today been fined £400,000 for breaching of health and safety laws which led to a rail worker suffering injuries while renewing rail track in Flintshire, north-east Wales, two years ago. This follows a prosecution brought by the Office of Rail and Road (ORR).

On 6 November 2015 we consulted on proposed changes to Schedule 5 and the associated Rights Table in the model freight track access contract. This also included consequential changes to Schedule 4. Carillion Construction fined £200,000 for Lincolnshire railway death
