Applying for an exemption from the requirement to have a Train Protection System.
Regulation 3(1) Railway Safety Regulation 1999 prohibits the operation of a train on a railway with a line speed of over 25mph, unless a train protection system is in service in relation to that train on that railway.
Regulation 6 of the 1999 Regulations allows us to grant exemptions from any requirement imposed by the regulations and to attach conditions to any such exemptions.
