Key results

  • A total of 369 million rail passenger journeys were made in Great Britain in the latest quarter (1 October to 31 December 2022). This is 80% of the 461 million journeys in the same quarter three years ago (pre-pandemic). Strike action affected large parts of the network during the quarter, see page 2 for details. In response, a reduced timetable was put in place on the strike days and on some of the days after.
  • A total of 12.7 billion passenger kilometres were travelled in the latest quarter. This is 73% of the 17.5 billion kilometres travelled in the same quarter three years ago.
  • Total passenger revenue was £2.1 billion in the latest quarter. This is 66% of the £3.2 billion three years ago (when adjusted for inflation).
