High Speed Two (HS2) is a project run by the Department for Transport (DfT).
Following a consultation by the DfT, the Government has decided to proceed with the development of a new high speed rail network in the UK. Further information is available on the Government HS2 website.
- The High Speed Rail (London – West Midlands) Act 2017 received Royal Assent on 23 February 2017.
- The High Speed Rail (West Midlands - Crewe) Act 2021 received Royal Assent on 11 February 2021.
The Health and Safety Executive is the enforcing authority for the majority of activities related to the construction works associated with HS2.
Our engagement with the project will address how it is designed to deliver safety in operation, as well as working to ensure integration into the UK rail network.
We have consulted and set out in our regulatory statement how we propose to take into account the future operation of HS2 when making decisions about access to the existing network.
