Monitoring National Highways

National Highways has delivered significant improvements for road users in the second road period (RP2 2020 - 2025), says the Office of Rail and Road (ORR), but the company must learn lessons from missed commitments to deliver better performance in the next Road Period.

Safety continues to improve on England’s motorways and major A-roads, but National Highways is unlikely to meet its main safety target set by government, the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) said today in its third annual assessment of safety on the strategic road network.

Each year we assess National Highways’ performance against a range of government set targets that it should deliver over the second road period (RP2, which runs from 1 April 2020 – 31 March 2025).

The benefits to road users from the second road investment strategy (RIS2, running from 2020 – 2025) for England’s strategic road network risk not being delivered in full, regulator the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) warned today.
